Farewell to Charles McBride
Sadly our local independent optician, Charles McBride, has just retired, to spend more time with his family, after over twenty years in Bishy Road. We’ll be very sorry to see him go and wish him a happy retirement. The shop will re-open soon with another independent optician.
You may remember this shop as ‘The Spectacle Gallery’, from the late 1990s, next to the Post Office (which is now the Pig and Pastry).
Before that, from around 1990 it was Inner Space Stations (which later had a video shop at no 27, now part of Trinacria).
Briefly around 1988 it was Fotostop cards and gifts.
Peter Black bought the house at 33 Bishopthorpe Road in 1968 and operated as Enterprise secondhand furniture dealers until the late 1980s.
