The contribution of women on the WW1 Home Front in our area
Pauline Alden has been researching more stories about our local women during the First World War. Some were working as nurses at Nunthorpe Hall VAD Hospital, some were volunteering to support soldiers and sailors at York Station.
Thousands of servicemen passed through the station during the war and were in great need of refreshments, and sometimes a bed for the night. Follow these links to find out more:
